The moment you have been waiting for! Nerd Nite is back this June — get your tickets here.

This time, we will be learning about baby names, vampire slayers and the lies of race science.

WHAT’S IN A BABY NAME?
Zoe Griffiths is a maths speaker who has talked about maths in a range of settings; on the YouTube channel Numberphile, on BBC Radio 4, at science festivals, comedy nights and at schools all over the world. For Nerd Nite she will be analysing the maths behind the Office for National Statistics’ data on baby names.

BAD SCIENCE
Subhadra Das is a writer, historian, broadcaster and comedian who specialises in the history and philosophy of science, particularly the history of scientific racism and eugenics. For nine years she was Curator of the Science Collections at UCL. She has written and presented podcasts and comedy shows, curated exhibitions, and appeared on radio and TV. Her first book Uncivilised: Ten Lies That Made The West was published in February 2024 – for her NN talk she will be focussing on the lies of race science.

VAMPIRE SLAYER STATS
Comedian and storyteller Ben Lund-Conlon will be giving an abridged version of his debut Edinburgh Fringe show – an hour-long statistical analysis of deaths in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.Have you ever wondered how many vampires Buffy slays in Sunnydale? Statistically, is Buffy the Vampire Slayer the best vampire slayer in Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Ben has counted every single death depicted, reported, referenced or implied in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, created a (colour-coded) spreadsheet, and delved into the stats. Expect pie charts, line graphs, tree maps and flow charts.
